On To Bethlehem!
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times. ” (Micah 5:2)
“The shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about’.”
“The thing” that had happened was foretold by the prophets. Prophets like Isaiah. Prophets like Micah. The word of God promised! The word of God fulfilled! Jesus! The Word! The Word made flesh! The Word dwelling among the people! The Word full of grace and truth! (John 1)
Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Bethlehem – “the house of bread”.
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry and he who believes in me will never be thirsty’.” (John 6:35)
Jesus, the bread of life, born in Bethlehem, the house of bread! And later and now a blessing!
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)
Yes, on to Bethlehem, the house of bread to receive the bread of life! Joy to the world indeed!
