Easter is...
As you read this article in early March we will all experience the joy and celebration of Easter, of life and promise in about three weeks. Soon we will hear what we have heard and said so many Easters before this one: “He is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” But, before Easter we must pass through Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
The events of Holy Week happen in a flurry. There is the joy of our Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem the last week of His life prior to Easter. There is the betrayal on Thursday and His crucifixion and death on Friday – Good Friday. And then there is the wait. I wonder what it was like for those on the inside of Jesus’ life between His death and His resurrection?
What would be my level of faith? How much fear would interrupt my faith? Would I be alive in the promise of Jesus or dead in the doubt and disappointment of defeat? So much can cloud or confuse not only whose we are but who we are. But let us remember… We are God’s people! We are people who acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior! We are Easter people – people of the empty tomb!
Let us live as Easter people… Let us sing the song of Salvation and live it out to God’s glory as we “reach up” to God in worship, “reach in” to one another through encouragement and “reach out” to others who are in need of God’s touch: the touch of God from an Easter person.
As Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life may our trust be in Him alone.
Easter joy to your and yours,
Pastor Jim
